Cameo Editions

The third edition published by Whitman are known as "cameos" because of the cameo picture of Trixie that appears on the cover of these hardback books.  There were only thirteen books published in this format, and three of them are first editions.

1.    The Secret of the Mansion            8.    The Black Jacket Mystery
2.    The Red Trailer Mystery              9.    The Happy Valley Mystery
3.    The Gatehouse Mystery               10.   The Marshland Mystery
4.    The Mysterious Visitor                11.   The Mystery at Bob-White Cave
5.    The Mystery Off Glen Road        12.   The Mystery of the Blinking Eye
6.    The Mystery in Arizona               13.  The Mystery on Cobbett's Island
7.    The Mysterious Code

According to the imprint pages of these books, the first ten were published at the same time as the "cello" edition.  Internally, the books are basically identical to the "cello" edition except the second colour has changed and only one colour is used.

Mary Stevens is credited as the illustrator for the first six books, and Paul Frame is the illustrator for the other seven.  However, the cover illustrations seem different to the style of both illustrators.  It is common for the cover illustrator not to be acknowledged.

The listings of books in the end pages and on the back cover are unusual.  The end pages do not list the books in order and the back of book twelve only lists to book eleven.

The information provided here covers the books from my own collection and is not representative of all the books produced at this time.
